Review for accuracy
Check every detail, from personal information to financial data. Accuracy now prevents delays later.
IUL Basics
Congratulations. You just took a real step toward a protected, long term IUL strategy. Here is exactly what comes next, so nothing surprises you.
Your application journey
Our team and the insurance carrier work together to see what you qualify for, then we design the policy around your goals.
We prepare your official application with the carrier that best fits your profile.
You get secure documents to review and sign from any device.
The carrier reviews your application and a short online health questionnaire.
Either an accelerated path with no exam, or full underwriting with a brief exam.
An approval and offer, a postponement, or a decline, and we explain your options either way.
We build your IUL design around your approved rate class and your goals.
Step 1
Once your pre-application is in, our licensed team gets to work. We use your information to complete your official life insurance application with the carrier that best matches your health and goals.
In this stage we verify your personal and financial details, sketch a preliminary policy design, and prepare your documents for electronic signature. Your information is handled through secure, encrypted systems. This usually takes one to two business days.
Step 2
Usually within a few business days you will get a secure link by email or text (DocuSign or a similar platform) with your completed application.
Check every detail, from personal information to financial data. Accuracy now prevents delays later.
Sign from any device. No printing or scanning.
If anything is unclear, we will walk you through it before you sign.
Step 3
After you sign, we submit your application and the carrier starts its review to set your rate class, which directly affects the cost and long term performance of your policy.
Within a few days you will usually get a secure link to a short online health history questionnaire (often about 15 minutes): medical history and medications, family history for certain conditions, lifestyle factors, and recent doctor visits.
Good to know: you do not need to schedule a medical exam unless underwriting asks for one. Many applicants are able to go through without an exam.
Step 4
Based on your age, health history and answers, the carrier picks the underwriting path.
If you qualify, the carrier may skip the exam and move straight to a decision, sometimes within days. This path is most common for younger applicants with straightforward health and financial profiles.
If the carrier needs more detail, a short exam is scheduled at your convenience at no cost to you, usually a mobile nurse visit: height, weight, blood pressure, blood and urine samples, and a brief health interview.
Think of it like applying for a mortgage: the carrier needs accurate information to offer you its best terms. Complete, honest answers help you land the most favorable rate class you qualify for.
Step 5
Once underwriting finishes (often two to six weeks, depending on the case), you will hear one of three things.
A formal offer with your rate class (for example Preferred Plus, Preferred or Standard) and approved coverage.
The carrier needs more time or records, such as notes from your doctor, before deciding.
Sometimes a carrier says no. We will explain why and look at other carriers that may fit your situation better.
Your rate class matters: it affects your policy's cost and how efficiently it can build cash value over time. We will explain yours and what it means for your plan.
Step 6
Once you are approved, the fun part begins. We meet to design your plan around your goals and your approved rate class, whether that is retirement income, protection, or both.
Monthly, annual or a custom contribution schedule.
How many years you plan to contribute.
When and how you may access cash value later, typically through policy loans, which offer tax-advantaged access when the policy is set up and kept in force properly.
Structuring for cash value potential while keeping the right death benefit for your family.
Our goal is a strategy that fits your lifestyle, income goals and legacy vision, not just a product. The IUL Basics team
It varies by carrier and case. Accelerated underwriting can finish in days; cases that need an exam or medical records often take several weeks. Once you accept an approved offer, the policy can usually be placed in force soon after.
Tell us. Significant health changes before the policy is placed can affect eligibility or rating, and the carrier needs accurate information.
Yes. Life insurance policies include a free look period, commonly 10 to 30 days depending on your state, when you can review the issued policy and cancel. We do not charge a fee if you decide not to move forward.
When an IUL is properly designed and kept in force, policy loans can provide tax-advantaged access to cash value. Loans accrue interest and reduce cash value and death benefit, and a lapse can create a tax bill. Your licensed professional and tax advisor can explain how this applies to you.
