Take the Red Pill: Awakening to the Life You Were Designed to Build

There comes a moment in every builder’s life when something shifts.

It doesn’t arrive with fireworks or a perfectly clear plan. It usually shows up as a quiet unrest. A holy dissatisfaction. A sense that the life you’re living - while good, respectable, and even successful—might not be the life you were designed to build.

That’s the moment this episode ofThe Jesse Wood Show is about.

The American Dream vs. the American Delusion

Many of us grow up with a script already written for us.
Go to school. Get the degree. Find the job. Build the life. Retire comfortably.

It’s often called the American Dream.
But for many builders, it slowly turns into what Jesse calls the American Delusion, a life shaped more by environment and expectations than by God-designed purpose.

At first, everything feels fine. You’re productive. You’re responsible. You’re doing what you’re “supposed” to do. But eventually, a question starts knocking:

Is this really it?

That question doesn’t mean you’re ungrateful.
It means you’re awakening.

Restlessness Is Often the First Sign of Purpose

Purpose rarely begins as clarity.
It usually begins as restlessness.

You may still love what you do. You may even be good at it. But something inside you starts to realize that your entire life has been shaped by opportunity, affirmation, or survival—not by intentional calling.

That’s when God begins to invite you into a deeper conversation.

Why did you choose this career?
Why did you pursue this path?
Why did you say yes to this version of your life?

These aren’t questions meant to shame you, they’re meant to wake you up.

The Red Pill Moment

Jesse shares a powerful metaphor from The Matrix: the red pill and the blue pill.

The blue pill represents comfort, familiarity, and staying in the loop of what you’ve always known.
The red pill represents truth, risk, and awakening, even when you don’t know what’s on the other side.

This choice isn’t about good versus evil.
It’s about comfort versus truth.

God doesn’t confront us when we’re failing, He often confronts us when something is goingtoo wellto walk away from. When success becomes the very thing that keeps us from significance.

When What You’re Known For Isn’t What You’re Called For

Jesse opens up about a pivotal moment in his own journey, building a successful platform as a musician and influencer. The doors were opening. The recognition was growing. The path was working.

But God interrupted him with a sobering truth:

If you keep going, this will get too good to walk away from and it will be what you’re known for.

That moment wasn’t about quitting music.
It was about alignment.

Sometimes God allows good things to grow so we can clearly see whether they’re the thing or just a stepping stone.

Stepping Out of the Boat Requires Trust, Not Readiness

One of the most freeing truths in this episode is this:

You don’t take the red pill because you’re ready.
You take it because you’re willing.

Peter didn’t step out of the boat because he was prepared, he stepped out because he trusted Jesus enough to move. And yes, he failed quickly. But failure didn’t disqualify him; it deepened his relationship with God.

There’s a difference between knowing God from the boat and knowing Him on the water.

Both involve faith.
Only one involves transformation.

Renewing Your Mind Is Part of the Journey

Awakening doesn’t stop at awareness, it requires mind renewal.

Many believers are disciplined in repenting from sin but never confront the thought patterns that limit them. Yet Scripture makes it clear: repentance means restoring your thinking back to its original, God-designed position.

Truth must be planted deeply enough that lies are immediately exposed.

This is how builders mature—not by doing more, but by thinking differently.

You Were Built for Big Things

If God is stirring big ideas in you, you’re not selfish—you’re responding to design.

Scripture reminds us not to be conformed to the patterns of this world. That means God’s ideas will often feel unreasonable, uncomfortable, or even impossible at first.

But God already knows how to take you:

  • from prison to palace

  • from Egypt to promise

  • from confusion to clarity

The question isn’t can He?
The question is will you follow?

Your White Rabbit Is Already Showing Up

InThe Matrix, the white rabbit was the signal that led Neo toward awakening.

In real life, your “white rabbit” might be:

  • the same encouragement showing up repeatedly

  • the same idea you can’t shake

  • the same nudge God keeps placing in front of you

Those moments aren’t random. They’re invitations.

God isn’t asking you to figure out the how.
He’s asking you to respond to the what.

Take the Red Pill

Jesus didn’t just die to save you from something, He died to restore you to something.

Back to partnership.
Back to the garden.
Back to purpose.

You don’t have to stay outside, grateful but unfulfilled.
You’re invited into clarity, truth, and co-creation with God.

So the question remains:

When did you start settling and why?

It’s time to wake up.
It’s time to take the red pill.
And it’s time to build—together.
