From FedEx to Fire: When God Ends Your Manna Season

A powerful builder story about identity, surrender, and what happens when God ends your manna season and calls you from striving to sonship.

There are moments in life that stop you in your tracks, not because they’re loud, but because they’re true.

For me, one of those moments started with a simple Instagram scroll late at night. You know the kind. One last check before putting the phone down. And then suddenly, there it was.

A man standing outside, fire blazing, wearing a FedEx jacket. He looks into the camera and says something that hits deeper than it should:

“My manna season is over.”

Then he throws the jacket into the fire.

I didn’t know him. I didn’t know his story. But I knew God was saying, Pay attention.

That man was Jay Robinson and this is a builder story about identity, surrender, and what happens when God lovingly ends a season that once sustained you.

The Season That Sustains You… Until It Doesn’t

Jay didn’t grow up disconnected from faith. In fact, he grew up in a strong Christian household: two parents, decades of marriage, a clear picture of stability and belief. But like many of us, there came a point where his relationship with God had to move from inherited faith to personal faith.

He understood Jesus. He loved Jesus.

But God as Father? That was harder.

It wasn’t until Jay became a father himself that something clicked. Holding his own son shifted how he saw God: not as distant or demanding, but as loving, protective, and intentional. It reframed everything.

And that’s where the real work began.

Identity Drift: When the Gift Becomes the Label

Jay’s gift showed up early. Music was everything. By his teens, he was producing, building a following, and chasing what looked like purpose. Opportunity followed him fast, even brushing up against major record labels.

But slowly, something subtle happened.

The gift became the identity.

Instead of being a son who produced music, Jay became the music producer. And when that happens, everything becomes outcome-based. Success becomes validation. Numbers become proof. Platforms become confirmation.

If it grows, God must be with me.
If it’s working, I must be in His will.

But that’s not how identity works in the Kingdom.

God began interrupting Jay’s momentum, telling him to put the music down. Over and over again. Seasons of obedience followed by seasons of resistance. For nearly seven years, God kept pressing the same question:

“Can I have your heart before I bless your hands?”

When God Lets You Have It Your Way

Eventually, Jay reached a breaking point. Tired of stopping and starting. Tired of waiting. Tired of restraint.

So he told God,I’ve got this.

And God let him.

2020 brought everything Jay had been chasing: money, momentum, influence, freedom. The goals he wrote down? All checked off within months.

But spiritually, he was empty.

Compromise crept in. Guardrails disappeared. Relationships fractured. Identity collapsed under the weight of performance. And the deeper the success went, the darker things became.

Until one moment changed everything.

An altercation that should have ended his life or put him in prison, didn’t. Only because God intervened quietly, ahead of time.

And days later, after years of prayer he didn’t even know were happening, Jay found himself in his father’s living room - face to face with truth, conviction, and grace.

That was the night everything broke… and everything healed.

Surrender Isn’t Loss, It’s Alignment

Jay didn’t bargain with God anymore.

No timelines. No conditions. No platforms.

Just surrender.

“If I never touch music again, I’ll still follow You.”

That’s not weakness. That’s sonship.

And from that place, God began rebuilding. not just the calling, but the carrier of the calling.

Because God doesn’t crush His children with blessings they’re not ready to carry.

Sometimes what feels like restraint is actually protection.
Sometimes what feels like delay is preparation.
And sometimes God ends your manna season, not to punish you, but to move you into promise.

A Word for Builders Who Feel Unseen

If you’re in a season where things feel slower than they should…
If God seems to be saying “wait” when you’re ready to run…
If what once sustained you no longer fits…

You’re not forgotten.

You’re being formed.

God is a good Father. And good fathers don’t give weight to sons who aren’t ready to carry it, not because they don’t trust them, but because they love them.

This isn’t the end of your story.
It’s the deep work before the build.

And this conversation with Jay Robinson?
It’s only the beginning.

Part 2 is coming.
