Session 1 of 8
Kingdom stewardship:
everything we have
was handed to us
Financial Purpose Academy by Build Until
Before we begin
Read this out loud, word for word
Financial Purpose Academy is free faith-based education. No products are offered or sold in the room, and no one is recruited. It is not tax, legal or investment advice. The complimentary strategy session is optional and is with a licensed financial professional, who may earn a commission if you later choose to buy a product through them. You are never obligated to buy anything. The church receives no compensation.
The kitchen table
01
At the kitchen table after the kids are asleep, moving the same three bills around.
02
They used to dream out loud. They don't bring up money anymore.
03
Sings every Sunday. Hasn't told a soul how far behind he is.
04
Hears all of it in the hallway and the parking lot, and prays with them.
Why we're really here
God didn't call us to just
be at peace with our money.
He called us to walk in purpose,
with a peace that surpasses
all understanding.
Philippians 4:7
Luke 19:11
As they heard these things, he went on and told a parable, because he was near Jerusalem, and they supposed that God's Kingdom would be revealed immediately.
Everybody started the same
Ten servants. Ten coins. In this story the difference is not how much they had. The difference is what they did with it.

Do business with thisLuke 19:13 · NASB 1995
until I come back.
The heart of the course. Jesus tells the whole parable in Luke 19:11-27
to people who thought the kingdom was about to appear right away.
He came back
When he had come back again, having received the kingdom,Luke 19:15 · WEB
he commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money,
to be called to him, that he might know
what they had gained by conducting business.
The master comes back and calls his servants in. That is the accountability in the story.
Well done
"Faithful with very little" led to cities to care for. This is a faithfulness story, not a get rich story.
The third servant
for I feared you,Luke 19:21 · WEB
because you are an exacting man.
He says it himself. He hid what he was given, then blamed the master.
The hard edge, and the cross
But bring those enemies of mineLuke 19:27 · WEB
who didn't want me to reign over them here,
and kill them before me.
Verse 27 is about people who rejected the king. Jesus is serious. And the same Jesus went on to Jerusalem to die for us.
What counts as a mina
01
The hours you've been given.
02
What you can do that others can't.
03
What comes in, however much it is.
04
The house, the car, the tools.
05
The ones God put near you.
06
What's in front of you right now.
Workshop
25
minutes
Exercise
Take your time. Write what God has actually given you, not what you wish you had. Then be honest about what you're doing with it.
In your workbook or the app. Nobody grades this page.
Workshop
5
minutes
Exercise
Rate each step from 1 to 10 two ways: how important is it to you, and how urgent is it right now?
The six steps: Cash Flow, Debt Management, Emergency Fund, Proper Protection, Build Wealth, Preserve Wealth.

Prayer and next steps
Father, everything we have came from You. Show us what's in our hands, take the fear out of looking, and make us faithful with what You trusted us with. In Jesus's name.
